LaSalle Lumber To Conduct Job Fairs For Urania Facility

Oct. 23 at Huey P. Long Technical College in Winnfield; Oct. 25 at Urania Recreation Center in Urania

BATON ROUGE, La. — LaSalle Lumber Company, a joint venture of Hunt Forest Products and Tolko Industries, will conduct a pair of October job fairs for its newest facility in Urania, Louisiana. The company will host the first job fair from 3 to 6 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Huey P. Long Technical College, 5960 Highway 167 North in Winnfield.

LaSalle Lumber Company will host a second job fair from 3 to 6 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Urania Recreation Center, 6635 Tannehill Drive in Urania. The Louisiana Workforce Commission and LED FastStart® — the nation’s top-ranked, state workforce development program — are supporting the job fairs. LaSalle Lumber seeks applicants interested in hourly positions, including welders, electricians, loader operators, shipping clerks, stacker operators, weighmasters, rolling stock mechanics, forklift operators and more.

Qualified candidates are encouraged to bring a current résumé to the job fairs. Before attending the events, applicants may visit LouisianaJobConnection.com/LaSalleLumber to view specific job openings and to upload résumés. Following the job fairs, applicants receiving consideration for roles will be asked to participate in interviews and further job-screening, with hiring to proceed thereafter. Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States and are required to pass a drug screening. Candidates also must be open to flexible schedules, with the LaSalle facility in Urania eventually operating evening and night shifts.

“We’re excited to begin the recruitment process for hourly positions,” said LaSalle Lumber Mill Manager Nick Landi. “Construction on our new sawmill is going quickly, so we’re looking to fill our hourly positions through this job fair.”

In February 2018, LaSalle Lumber Company announced it would invest $115 million to establish a state-of-the-art lumber mill in Urania. The sawmill project will create 107 new direct jobs, and Louisiana Economic Development estimates another 307 new indirect jobs will result. Construction began in April, with operations slated to start in early 2019
